Dirk Marais Oosthuizen

B.Tech Chem Eng (Chem Eng) (Univ of Tech) TASA075; Carbon Footprint Analyst PNo.0110

Dirk Oosthuizen founder and director of NESconsult and Associates has been intrigued at early age by engineering aspects and revolutionary ideas for problem solving of high altitude wild flower farming and veld firefighting techniques by his late father, Japie Oosthuizen in the little town of McGregor in the Boland. Dirk enjoyed leadership and creative problem solving opportunities from a young age and really only established a love for Chemical Engineering after he left school and served in the defence forces where he was exposed to high intensity and explosive situations at a noticeably young age. After he completed his Chemical Engineering Studies his, employment in Denel’s Pyrotechnic division Swartklip, exposed him to R&D and QC aspects including high temperature reaction studies and triggered the product and business development skills of a true entrepreneur, by investigating and performing early product development feasibility studies on numerous proposals. The urge to consult and advise other to excel became a natural outcome of his consulting principles as he started his consulting career in CNCP cc in 1995. As a Chemical Engineering council member, and as one of the founders of The Thatcher’s Association of South Africa the importance Fire Safety allowed him to consult on various Fire Safety and Rational designs for customers all over South Africa. High risk Heritage structures and Green building procedures provided an outcome for his skills on energy emission and embodied energy calculations and process mass balance consulting. His recent qualification as a Carbon Footprint Analysist and a SETA accredited IEMA and Carbon Foot print tutor, provided him with consulting expertise to forecast carbon emissions on products and processes, attempting to influence associates and clients to not only reduce carbon emission but “to follow the carbon emission to see where your and your organizations money is going”. The EPD’s and the extent of the carbon footprint that we are leaving behind now form the integrated consulting package to his clients and students with the cutting edge of creative sustainable technology. This included in his work ethic’s, reflects his keen interest to prepared and support other to achieve higher goals for the communities they serve with a sustainable and Natural Engineering Solution.

Suzanne Lambert

MSc. Civil Engineering (University of Cape Town); BSc. Civil Engineering (University of Cape Town)

She finished her master’s in civil engineering with a focus on wastewater and material engineering. She has been with NESconsult since March 2020 and offers structural and wastewater design consulting services, using the framework of making carbon negative and sustainable solutions. At NESconsult she has worked on and aided in the design of filtration rainwater tanks, modular toilet units and backend wastewater filtration systems (Dewdrop).
